Research: A Step-by-Step Guide: Using OneSearch

This guide will help you start learning about the high-quality information and research support available through the Kirk Library

Finding a Print Book using OneSearch

1. Type your topic OR the book title into OneSearch, and then press "Enter".

(OneSearch is like the Kirk Library's Google. It searches everything that the library owns: books, e-books, articles, newpapers, dvds, and more.)

2. To find print books in the library, click the “available in the library” box and the “books” button. (The books button is located just below, under the Material Type section.) Then click on the green “APPLY FILTERS” button.

3. You should now have a list of the welding books that are in the library. Look at the list. When you find a book you want to use, note the availability and location (example: Available, Main Stacks). Then write down the call number*

Note: the call number will appear horizontally in OneSearch, but will be written vertically on the book.

Here is an example:

976.335

HORNE

2006

*You can think of a call number as being the “address” for a book. In the above example, you first find the 976 section in our book stacks. Once you are in the 976 section, look for 976.335. Then search for HORNE, and then the year.

4. Once you have your book, you can use it in the library or check it out at the Circulation Desk with photo ID or Centralia College ID.

Finding Online Resources using OneSearch

1. Type your topic OR the book title into OneSearch, and then press "Enter".

(OneSearch is like the Kirk Library's Google. It searches everything that the library owns: books, e-books, articles, newspapers, dvds, and more.)

2. To find online resources in the library, click the “available online” box. Then click on the green “APPLY FILTERS” button. You should now have a list of the e-books, articles, newspaper articles, and more that are available online through the library. Look at the list. When you find something you want to use, click the title.

3. A page will appear with information about the resource that you want to use. To view the full text, click the link under the "View it" section.*

*If your resource has multiple links, simply choose one.

NOTE: If you are off campus you will need to validate that you are a CC student.  You will need to enter your last name in capital letters ( SMITH) and your student number (910xxxxxx).
