New students may need to wait one full business day before they are able to borrow library materials. New student records are loaded nightly into the library management system, and may take a full business day to appear in our records.

How long may I keep the books, DVDs, or CDs I check out?

  • Books for 30 days

  • CDs and DVDs for 7 days

  • Laptops and hotspots for 7 days

See the Kirk Library website for more information about borrowing materials.

How and where do I pay my library fines?

Library fines can be paid at the Cashier’s Office, located in the TransAlta Commons second floor. After you have paid your fine, bring the receipt back to the Library so that we can clear your fine.

What if the library does not have the book or article I need?

We can get books and articles from other libraries around the world using our Interlibrary Loan service!

Simply fill out the Interlibrary Loan form and we will notify you when the item arrives. Please request the item as soon as possible, as Interlibrary Loan can take time to arrive.

Where can I find my textbook?

Textbooks are available for purchase or rent at the Bookstore

In rare cases, a class instructor may place course textbooks in the library for their students to check out for an entire quarter, or place them on reserve for “library use only” (meaning you can use them within the library building). If this applies to you, your instructor will notify you in class and/or on your syllabus.

Can the library make change ($) for me?

No. We are not able to make change, as we have no cash on hand. The Bookstore may be able to make change. The Bookstore is located in the northeast corner of the TransAlta Commons on the  first floor.

Do you accept donations?
